Rurik may be reborn but he still loses a family and friends. It's kind of hard for a two month old to contact her old family, not to mention really disconcerting for the parents.

well, since Cain and the rest of his family know of his immortality-ish-ness. They could still expect a call in a few years without much suprise. assuming he'd remember the phone number.

So now Rurik and Cain will basically become minor characters because they don't have their powers?

Rurik should have sacrificed his own powers instead of Cain's.

But then again, how was he supposed to know that he'd wind up in a blind midgie?

^No, he doesn't like causing pain. In fact, I have a theory: Death is actually a pacifist.

Exhibit A: People die in wars.
Exhibit B: It is Death's job to go all around the world to collect the souls of the dead.
Exhibit C: The more people die, the more work he has to do.
Exhbit D: Nobody likes to work.

Conclusion: Death tries to prevent war, so that he's not constantly working.
